My 2023-2024 Grading Policies

Classwork - 60%

Soft Skills - 10% (following the soft skills rubric - 10 points per day with 40 points maximum). An additional 10 possible points is given for completing the weekly self-reflection (via video submission or online form) at the last class of each week. Thus, each week will have 50 possible soft skills points. If there is no school or class for one day, or you have an excused absence, you will get the 10 points automatically. This includes missing class for another class' field trip or a TSD sporting event.

Projects/Assessments - 15%

Homework - 15%

60% + 10% + 15% + 15% = 100%

Homework - On the first class of each week, I will assign a homework assignment that will be lighter than my usual classwork and projects. You are responsible to find time to do the homework during Advisory Time, in the dorm, and/or at home.

Late Work - by default, any work assigned in a class is expected to be completed and turned in by the next class session.  The hard deadline for any work (which is entered in the work's Schoology posting), is one school week by default.  Longer work (such as projects) will have the due date clearly put down in Schoology in both the work description and due date. Please double check and ask if you are unsure.  Do not wait until the last minute!

Per high school policy, I am generally unable to accept work past the due date for a full grade. If you turn in late work, I would need to halve the points the work would have earned.  I need to get special permission from my supervisors to give full grade for older work on an as-needed basis.

Also per high school policy, I will discuss with you and inform your parents and/or dorm staff if your grade is at 75% or below.  Remember, 69% or below is considered failing in TSD HS. Informing parents is usually done by e-mail and/or a phone call home.

I do not give extra credit work upon request. Please be sure to focus on currently assigned work and complete them on time for the best possible grade.  I occasionally do give extra credit work/points as a reward or if I make an error and my students do more work than they are supposed to.
