Physical Education is a comprehensive development program focused on the education of the whole person. Our program is an integral part of the total education process and has the same goals that give purpose to all learning experiences. The interdisciplinary nature of physical education provides students of all abilities opportunities to achieve the knowledge and skills that will further develop and enhance their sense of wellness and to maximize the quality of their lives by striving to improve their health through physical education.
The mission of the Texas School for the Deaf Physical Education and Aquatics Department is to develop healthy bodies so that students may be at their best when learning, and to promote positive attitudes toward lifetime physical activity, fitness, and sports skills. Students shall be provided a safe, non-threatening, positive, and encouraging environment where cooperation, opportunity to acquire knowledge, physical and social skills, as well as to improve or maintain fitness as a means to achieving a healthy lifestyle presently and in the future.
Through the implementation of standards-based physical education, a highly qualified and dynamic staff will promote optimal growth and development of the physical, emotional, and social well-being of its students. This developmentally balanced and sequentially implemented physical education program will give students the movement skills and knowledge to be active and physically fit to the best of their ability throughout their lifetime.
