Nick Bannon

Professional and Educational Background:
Nick Bannon has been in the field of physical education and athletic coaching since 1987, first working as a student-worker in Gallaudet University’s Personal Discovery Program (teambuilding/ropes courses) and in the Gallaudet Instructional Summer Program as an American Red Cross Swim Instructor. Upon graduating from Gallaudet, Nick began work as a PE teacher/coach at the California School for the Deaf-Riverside, taught PK-12 PE, coached football, wrestling, and basketball. Then beginning, fall of 2002, Nick started work at the Texas School for the Deaf as an Elementary PE Teacher, Curriculum Specialist, football, track and field, tennis coach, and now Supervisor of TSD PE and Aquatics, cross-country and swim coach.
Nick brought back the TSD cross-country and swim team athletic programs and is the founder/head coach of the TSD K-12 Sea Rangers Summer Swim Team, which has grown from 7 swimmers to 80+ swimmers in 8 years. Nick has also worked with the Gallaudet University Discovery Program in teaching teambuilding/SEL to groups of teachers, psychologists, social workers, and K- 12 students in various cities in Russia since 1991. Nick holds degrees in Physical Education/Education, BS from Gallaudet University, MS from Canisius College; Deaf Education, MS from Texas Tech, and an EdS in School Change Administration from Gallaudet University.

What do you do to stay fit?
Nick has long participated in triathlons since 1990, has completed over 100 triathlons and at least 4 Ironman Triathlons. He continues to swim, bike, run,
and walk with family and the dog during his free time.
