The 2012 Annual Transition Fair was a huge success!

We had 8 recruiters from different colleges and universities to give their presentations about their academic programs and support services to students.  This year marked the first time that we used video-conference equipment for one of the college presentations. There were 12 community resource representatives to explain and discuss services and programs available for deaf and hard of hearing students. We also had 8 panelists for two different panel events: Career Panel Discussion and Life after Graduation Panel Discussion.

We extended invitations to 51 mainstream programs throughout Texas.  We were thrilled that students from mainstream programs in San Marcos, San Antonio and Houston were able to attend.  Also we were able to invite community resource agencies to participate and share information that would benefit students when developing their transition planning.

We encourage parents to attend and we hope to see a large turnout next year with the parents.  Parents play a huge role in providing support with their child’s transition planning to help shape their child’s future after graduation.  The transition fair aims to arm the parents with information and resources.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either Shelley Oishi, Parent Liaison or Daniel Veit, Transition Specialist.
