Howdy! My name is Athena Maxwell and I am a Job Coach/Teacher's Assistant within the ACCESS Program at the Texas School for the Deaf. I have worked at TSD since the beginning of 2015. During my first year in the ACCESS Program, I created the "ACCESS Dress for Success" Fashion Show where our students were able to get a "hands-on" learning experience for how to dress professionally and appropriately in their professional and personal lives. The event was a huge success and we will be continuing to have it annually!
Prior to working at TSD, I was a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant at the Austin State Hospital for over 2.5 years. There, I worked in the children's unit as a direct care staff for children and teenagers with various disorders and disabilities. My experience at ASH has allowed me to transition smoothly into the ACCESS Program.
My educational background consists of a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with 3 minors, including American Sign Language. I have recently finished the Interpreting Program Internship at Austin Community College and am currently striving to earn my certification.
One of my all time favorite past times (while commuting) is listening to books on tape. I also enjoy cooking, playing with my two cute kitties and gardening.
