Message from the Superintendent: Summer Programs Letter April 1st, 2017

Addendum to Summer Programs Letter

TSD will not be offering summer programs this year for early childhood, elementary, middle school, high school, special needs, or transitional students.  This includes Drivers Education.
We will be offering Extended Year Services and Accelerated Instruction Services for students who meet the criteria and are referred by their respective ARD committees.

Again, we apologize for this inconvenience and we are optimistic that this suspension of summer programs is for one year only.

Dear Parents,

Just a reminder that we will not offer summer programs for early childhood, elementary, middle school, high school, special needs or transitional students this summer.

As shared with you previously, this was a very difficult decision that was based on financial constraints that the school is experiencing as we approach the end of this two year biennial budget cycle. We simply do not have sufficient funds to offer summer programs.

We regret this inconvenience and lost opportunity for your students. We are hopeful that our funding appropriation for this next biennium will restore our financial integrity. It is our full intention to reactivate the summer programs for next year.

We will continue to offer Extended School Year services that are part of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), and accelerated instruction and STAAR retesting, as these services are recommended for individual TSD students in the ARD/IEP meetings. We will communicate with the individual families of students recommended for these programs regarding the dates and schedule for these services.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 512-462-5300.

Respectfully,

Claire Bugen,
Superintendent
