GOVERNING BOARD OF TEXAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF

ANNOUNCES NEXT SUPERINTENDENT

 

Austin, Texas April 14, 2023 – The Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) Governing Board is pleased to announce the selection of Peter L. Bailey as the 28th superintendent of TSD. Bailey will succeed Claire Bugen, who has led the school for 25 years, and will retire after a total of 48 years at TSD.

 

Bailey brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this role, having served in a number of leadership positions in the field of Deaf Education over 30 years, including as a school administrator at The Learning Center for the Deaf in Massachusetts, Maryland School for the Deaf, Delaware School for the Deaf, Texas School for the Deaf, and in Connecticut at the American School for the Deaf. He is currently superintendent in Philadelphia, at Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.

 

Bailey has also worked for Communication Services for the Deaf in both Texas and South Dakota, where he was able to affect change in the social services sector, and he’s served on boards of the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD) and the American Society for Deaf Children (ASDC).

 

Bailey holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services, and a Master of Science in Organizational Management and Leadership, from Springfield College in Massachusetts.
