Celebrate Deaf Awareness Week with ASL Expressions

September 22, 2021 - Austin, Texas – This evening, the Statewide Outreach Center (SOC) at Texas School for the Deaf invites you to celebrate Deaf Awareness Week 2021.

At 7:00 p.m. CST, on Facebook and YouTube, SOC Brings you ASL Expressions - an exciting lineup of performers showcasing their unique artistry incorporating the beauty of sign language through, stories, songs and dance.

 

Performances utilizing sign language are a rich part of Deaf culture, and tonight, youth and adult performers, storytellers, and TikTok creators share their individual art with the world.

 

Also referred to as International Week of the Deaf, Deaf Awareness Week is celebrated annually by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), its national associations and affiliates globally during the last full week of September to commemorate the same month the first World Congress of the WFD was held.
