Statewide Outreach Center and TSD present ASL Expressions

September 24, 2020 - Austin, Texas – From stages, arenas, living rooms and home studios - bringing you an exciting lineup of deaf talent and artistry illustrating the beauty of American Sign Language (ASL).

Register, then connect today at 6:30 p.m. CST to ASL Expressions via YouTube or Facebook Live to celebrate this annual Deaf Awareness Week, brought to you by the Statewide Outreach Center at Texas School for the Deaf (TSD).

ASL Expressions is a virtual showcase of performances, incorporating artistry and ASL, which are a rich part of Deaf culture.

Hosted by emcee, Crystal Kelley Schwartz, a sign language interpreter, educator, consultant, and mentor who has her own style of performing rhythm and poetry.

Schwartz invites everyone to connect to ASL Expressions and “experience hope and positivity through different performances by deaf and hard of hearing individuals.”

The showcase features local talent, including TSD students, and well-knowns, like Matthew Maxey, Megg Rose, Matthew Schwartz and more, coming together to share with you their own unique performance styles in poetry, storytelling, dance and music.

Also referred to as International Week of the Deaf, Deaf Awareness Week is celebrated annually by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), its national associations and affiliates globally during the last full week of September to commemorate the same month the first World Congress of the WFD was held.
