Qualified TSD staff may have the opportunity to earn additional compensation through supplemental employment activities such as summer school positions, athletic coaching, academic tutoring, extracurricular sponsors, and short-term outreach programs.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Plans, develops, presents, and modifies curricula and prepare lesson plan and other instructional material to student ability levels based on the Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned. Works under the general supervision of the ECE/Elementary Principal.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Implements an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required
Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
Prepares and submit weekly lesson plans consistent with the established curriculum
Works cooperatively with instructional team to regularly modify curricula as needed to assist students in their classroom and work training assignments
Participates in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis
Conducts assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan for instructional activities
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned
Plans and supervises assignments for teacher assistant(s)
Uses technology for teaching/learning process
Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing
Provides or supervises personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as stated in the IFSP/IEP
Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by supervising teacher and campus principal
Serves as a positive role model for students; supports mission of Texas School for the Deaf

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Early Childhood Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Social Work, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Deaf Education, Elementary Education or Special Education
Able to receive deaf education or special education certification issued by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification within three years of employment, based on applicant's qualifications at the time of application, with the certification type based on assignment
Sign Language: At hire, the applicant must have sign language skills equivalent to a Signed Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) level of ADVANCED. When applying, the applicant must submit documentation that the applicant believes substantiates that the applicant has achieved the proficiency level required at hire.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
Proficient signed communication skills
Masters degree in deaf education or special education
Current certification in deaf education or special education issued by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification, with the certification type based on assignment
Current subject competence based on assignment
