GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs semi-skilled work in care for grounds. Work involves caring for and maintaining the appearance of grounds, gardens, flowers and grass. Duties include maintenance and repair of groundskeeping tools, supplies and equipment. Groundskeepers may apply fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides as needed. Performs work in the care and culture of plants, hedges, turf and grasses. Work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs mowing and trimming of turf grasses
Weeds and edges where needed.
Follows schedule for proper height for species and seasonal conditions for frequency to be mowed
Follows schedule and irrigates as needed
Follows approved schedule and applies fertilizer as required
Plants or sods replacement grass as needed
Determines the proper tool to use for the job function
Maintains golf putting green
Paints/stripes all field markings for the athletic function usage
Maintains sand beds as required
Plants, prunes, and fertilizes trees and shrubs
Pressure washes walls/buildings as directed
Maintains golf putting green
Moves furniture as directed
Performs related work as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Pest Control License issued by the Texas Control Board or Department of Agriculture or able to obtain licensure within six months of employment
Sign Language: The applicant does not need to have sign language skills at hire but will be required to participate in sign language classes offered at TSD until reaching a level of SURVIVAL. as evaluated on the Signed Communication Proficiency Interview. If hired with a sign language proficiency level below this level, you are required to participate in signed communication learning opportunities on a regular basis until you have achieved the sign language proficiency level assigned to your position.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
Proficient signed communications skills
One year of professional groundskeeping experience at a school, office, or similar commercial grounds
Previous experience providing athletic field maintenance and tree and shrub care
Previous experience using and maintaining standard groundskeeping equipment
