Texas School for the Deaf's Distance Learning department provides a number of programs to hundreds of students and educators across the state of Texas.
Our programs are designed to help enrich and the lives of the deaf and hard of hearing by reaching them directly with ASL Storytelling. We also strive to increase awareness with programs like Interpreter Mentoring and ASL Classes. For more information on these programs please follow the links or email our Distance Learning Specialist.
Texas School for the Deaf provides American Sign Language (ASL) to high school students in the state of Texas for foreign language credit.
This allows schools to provide their students with the option of taking ASL instead of other traditional foreign languages without having to employ their own ASL teacher.
ASL Storytelling features children's stories being told in ASL to young deaf and hard of hearing students in mainstreamed programs across the state of Texas. Our storyteller is superimposed over the pages of the book to give a truly unique experience.
Tips for Presenters Working with the Deaf (PDF) gives a "pared-down" version of how to adapt distance learning for Deaf students, for presenters already familiar with the technology but not with the needs of a Deaf audience.
Distance Learning Behavior (PDF) is a reproducible hand-out for students describing how to conduct themselves during a distance learning session.
