Ms. Ashley Smith

Welcome to my English class!

I am a high school English teacher who moved from the great state of Oklahoma. It was at Oklahoma State University (OSU) where I completed my Bachelors Honors college degree in Secondary English Education with a minor in ASL, and a Masters in English (specifically TESL- Teaching English as a Second Language). I also hope to pursue my PhD at UT in Educational Leadership or Linguistics.

At OSU I had the privilege of working in a variety of venues. I was a team manager for the Oklahoma State Women's basketball team, and I also tutored collegiate student-athletes in ASL classes, as well as tutoring collegiate English in ASL. I worked as a certified interpreter for Oklahoma State University for three years while finishing my Masters before moving to the Austin area.

I currently teach English III and Honors English III and IV.

I love reading, writing, and the study of languages. I am also a sports fan, and I enjoy playing basketball and flag football. I love learning new things, and of course... teaching!
My goal for this school year is to better prepare students for college level reading and writing, as well as for them to learn responsibility and time-management. I have high expectations for my students, and I strive to help them prepare for life after graduation. I truly love teaching and making a difference in students' lives; seeing student progress helps motivate my passion for education.
