Chemistry Syllabus


 

Required supplies

  1. Modern Chemistry Interactive Reader consumable booklet
  2. iPad or laptop
  3. Folder
  4. Pen/pencil/Eraser
  5. Closed-toe shoes for lab days

Lab Fees We encourage you to help contribute the cost of disposable lab materials and supplies used throughout the year.  We gently ask for a $10.00 lab fee that will go directly toward science department funding. 

 

Classroom Expectations

Keep a safe and clean environment
Phones are to be put in backpack
Maintain your soft skills 4 P’s ( Punctual, Prepared, Productive, Professional)

 

Consequences (This will make an impact on the grades under the Soft skills category.)

1st time: Warning

2nd time: A meeting with your teacher.

3rd time: A meeting with the SEL coaches with incident report documentation

4th time: incident report will be filled in Class C form for administrative action

 

The Laboratory area

Student Safety Contract must be signed before starting any laboratory activities.
Always follow the safety procedure and practice.
There is no tolerance for ANY type of misconduct. Therefore, there is no warning for the 1st Students will be asked to sit at their desk to work on other assignments. They will receive a zero for the laboratory activity.
Failure to do so results in serious Students may be written up depending on the nature of misconduct. (Class A, B, or C forms)
 

Assignments

All work must be completed to receive full credit.
Late homework due to an excused absence will receive full credit.
You will be responsible to make up work following excused absences. We will agree on the due date of the assignments.
 

School Policy

 

Tardies and Absences:  The tardy and absence policy in this class follows the school policy. Tests, quizzes, bellringer, or assignments cannot be made up unless the student has an excused absence(s). For unexcused absence, the assignments will be graded as zero.  For excused absences, the assignments will be graded as “1” until the assignment is completed. Students have 5 days to submit an excuse note after that the 1 will become a 0.

 

Bathroom/office/hallway passes:  To minimize distractions and interruptions, no passes will be given during the first fifteen minutes of class.

 

Food and Drinks:

Students may eat and drink during class IF they agree to keep their areas clean and dispose of trash appropriately. This is a privilege and may be revoked at any time by the teacher. 

You may NOT eat and drink in the Lab.

 

Cheating/ Plagiarism consequences: No credit for the assignment or test in which plagiarism or cheating occurred and will lower participation grade. A discipline report will be filled out. There will be no chance for makeup. 

Copying: If two or more people turn in homework that has been copied from each their grades will automatically be dropped to a 50% for that assignment. You may work together in a group, but the answers must be in your own words.

Electronic Device: Electronic devices such as smartphones, video games are not allowed in class. Smartphones are not to be visible and be placed in your backpack.

iPads and Laptops: Do not start using iPads when not prompted to and be engage in productive work when using laptops/iPads. Ipads are always used for instructional purposes- (no Netflix, video games and movies). Consequences will be lowered participation grade and possibly a discipline report.

 

Educational Trips

The purpose of educational trips in this course is designed to enhance the hands-on learning experiences and make real-world connections of content-based instruction from the classroom to the world.

 

These educational trips are to be regarded to be the same as a regular class, therefore absence policy & grade policy will apply.  Note that the Academic Intervention Program (AIP) has specific rules regarding field trips for students who are placed in the program. 

 

Soft Skills

There will be a soft skill rubric that I will compete at the end of the class daily and the soft skills will be graded at the end of the week. The soft skills will cover the 4 P’s:

  1. Punctual (arriving on time, time management, stays on task)
  2. Prepared (ready to learn, class materials, charged ipad, appropriate clothing for class)
  3. Productive (Work habits, follows routines, initiative, quality of work)
  4. Professional (Effective communication, work ethics, independent)

Tutoring Schedule

Please let me know the day or two days before if tutoring is needed and I will assign a pass and order lunch.

 

Communication

I will contact parents/guardians to share good news concerning a student's educational growth or to discuss behaviors or work habits that might cause the student difficulty in class.
