Welcome to Science in SND

Dear Parents,

My name is Connie Potersnak and I will be teaching Science to all the students in SND and will be teaching Human Sexuality to the Juniors and Seniors in SND. My assistant is Cary McKeller.

Students participate in Science class four times a week for 45 min each period. Activities are fun and hands on so the students are required to follow safety rules and use equipment appropriately with supervision. In addition, we have classroom pets which are used when discussing animal classification, adaptations, habitats, etc... We have 2 guinea pigs, 1 bearded dragon, 1 tree frog, 1 box turtle, 1 tarantula, 2 mice, a snake, and a bunny. All animal contact is with supervision only, however, if for any reason you do not want your son/daughter to touch/handle any of these animals, please let me know.

In High School SND Science, Freshmen are enrolled in Biology, Sophomores in Chemistry and Seniors in Physics.

The following grades are required to participate in the STAAR ALT test this year:

5th grade

8th grade

Biology (9th grade)

Please send the following School Supplies for Science:

markers

magic eraser sponge (2pk)

hand sanitizer

1 box of tissues

6 gluesticks

1 inch black binder (ONLY FOR NEW STUDENTS)

I look forward to a year filled with fun and learning. Please feel free to contact me at any time.
