The students will contiue to explore force and motion using magnets. 

The students have been working on pushes and pulls and identifying how things move on smooth and rough surfaces. They are currently exploring how heavy and light objects move and how much force is needed to move each.

The 6th graders have been identifying carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores. This week, the students will construct food chains and food webs and describe the energy transfer from producers to consumers to decomposers.

This week the students will be conducting experiments on Newton's 3rd law o motion. Newton's 3rd law states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

This week in Biology, the students will be studying genetics. Students will use a punnett square to figure out how traits are passed down from parent to offspring.  They will also identify learned behaviors vs inherited traits.

In Chemistry, the students have just finishe a unit on Mixtures and Compounds. They have performed experiments labeling mixtures as solutions or suspensions.

This week, students will be exploring volume and density using liquids.

In Physics, the students will continue to explore Newton's laws of motion. We are currently focusing on Newton's third law of motion which is:

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

The students will be conducting experiments on this law.

Dear Parents,

 

                        I would like to introduce my intern, Bailey Gates. She will be taking over my science

            classes, with my supervision, for the next 4 weeks. She is a Baylor University student

            and has been observing and acting as an assistant in SND classes since September.

                        Bailey will be responsible for writing lesson plans, teaching class, and collecting

            grades and data during her time in Science Class. I will be mentoring, supervising and         evaluating her lessons.

                        I assure you, your children are in good hands and will continue to receive a quality

            education with lots of fun filled hands on activities.
