Welcome

46th President and Vice-President

Great to have you back to school.

Hello, My name is Lawrence K. Smith, also known as Larry. I take great pride in my alma mater. Growing up at TSD has significantly influenced me to pursue a career as an educator, both as a teacher and a coach. Moreover, I am committed to paying this forward, which is why I aspire to continue teaching TSD students.

It's truly exciting to embark on my 30th season as an employee at TSD and my 21st year of teaching at TSD High School, focusing on social studies. I instruct US Government, US Economics, and African American Studies courses. This journey has been incredibly rewarding, as I've witnessed numerous accomplishments of TSD alumni in their personal and professional lives. It's fulfilling to know that I've played a part in positively impacting their pursuits.

I attended The National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) and earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Drafting. For two seasons, I ran in Track & Field Athletics, specializing in hurdles. Later, I continued my education at Gallaudet University, where I played as a four-year letterman for the Bison football team and earned my Bachelor of Arts in History.

Continuing my educational journey, I obtained a Master's in Deaf Education and Deaf Studies from Lamar University in 2002. Currently, I hold the position of Head Coach for both the Girls' and Boys' Track & Field teams at TSD. Moreover, I've been coaching various sports at TSD for over 30 years.

Saying "All children can learn" might sound like a cliché, but it holds absolute truth. I'm eagerly anticipating a fantastic school year ahead.

Curious about Larry Smith's beyond the working world!
