Welcome!

Hello!  My name is Michelle Halvorsen and I am the teacher of the academic bowl class and head coach of the academic bowl team.  This is my 19th year as TSD Academic Bowl Coach
  • Bachelor's in Deaf Education from Illinois State University in 2003
  • Master's in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis in 2010
  • 18 years teaching experience at TSD
  • Currently teach Academic Bowl, but previously served as a science teacher and head of the science department
  • I also previously worked for the DeafTEC Grant as a lead trainer and as coordinator of the Summer STEM Camp, hosted at TSD
  • I am also a freelance interpreter and enjoy interpreting in academic settings as well as community settings
I love to read, spend time with my children and husband, and talk long walks with our dog, Sophie.  I originally started college on a premed path but switched to a major in Deaf education my sophomore year.  I love science, especially anatomy and physiology.  I love teaching and coaching academic bowl because it helps me learn too!  I enjoy taking what I've learned as a coach through the years and helping build and develop our talented teams each year.  My objective as academic bowl teacher and coach is to help our students learn as much as possible about all topics and help them have fun doing it.

Academic Bowl class is daily from 9:15am-10:25am (9am-9:55am on Friday) in HS Room 109.  I strive to return emails within 24 hours and invite you to contact me any time you have questions about our class, our team, or your student.
