TSD Academic Bowl Team Regional Champions!

Hello TSD Community!

The Rangers Academic Bowl traveled to North Carolina School for the Deaf this weekend to defend their 2016 Regional Championship title. With 20 teams competing this year, it would be no easy feat. A group of our JV players also attended and watched, learned and cheered on their Varsity teammates.

On Friday our four seniors, Lydia Kopp, Shane Carrizales, Trevor Johnson and Damon Rush got off to an amazing start. They faced off against Woodrow Wilson High School and defeated them 90-21!
In scoring 90 points, our rangers broke a long-standing Regional record for most points scored in a regular match. The previous record was 82 points. For some perspective, a perfect game is a score of 102, so our team was only 12 points from a perfect score!

The team kept on rolling through four more matches on Friday. They defeated KY School for the Deaf 78-17, LA School for the Deaf 73-24, South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind 65-22 and Atlanta Area School for the Deaf 67-Saturday morning the team was ready to  continue their winning streak and secure their spot in the championship game. They accomplished this by defeating TN School for the Deaf 53-4, VA School for the Deaf and Blind 41-15, Pinella County District 57-4 and FL School for the Deaf and Blind 43-12!

Finally it was time to face a very talented Maryland School for the Deaf team, who placed first in their pool and was also undefeated, in the championship match. Our team brought their "A" game and took the lead within the first few questions and never looked back, defeating Maryland 79-52!!

In addition to bringing home the championship, Lydia Kopp and Trevor Johnson were recognized as all star players (though we know our whole team are all stars!!).  Gallaudet also started a new recognition of four-year players so Lydia, Trevor and Damon were all recognized for their four years on our team.
Aca
We now turn our focus to bringing home the National Championship!  We will travel to Gallaudet to compete for the title April 1-4.

If you see our talented team members, please congratulate them on their accomplishments!
